Formula Used
The calculator uses the CKD-EPI 2021 Creatinine Equation (race-free), recommended by the NKF-ASN Task Force and supported by NIDDK. This equation estimates glomerular filtration rate from serum creatinine, age, and sex assigned at birth.

- κ (kappa) = 0.7 (female) or 0.9 (male)
- α (alpha) = −0.241 (female) or −0.302 (male)
- min(SCr/κ, 1) = The smaller of SCr/κ or 1.0

- Female multiplier = 1.012 (applied when sex is female)
Values entered in µmol/L are converted to mg/dL using the standard conversion factor (µmol/L ÷ 88.42 = mg/dL) before applying the equation.

A descriptive range that places the calculated eGFR value into one of six educational categories: normal or high (≥90), mildly decreased (60–89), mildly to moderately decreased (45–59), moderately to severely decreased (30–44), severely decreased (15–29), or very severely decreased (<15). These categories describe the calculated value only and do not constitute a diagnosis.
- Equation Used. The race-free CKD-EPI 2021 creatinine equation recommended by NKF, ASN, and NIDDK.
Important:: The eGFR value is an estimate, not a direct measurement of kidney function. Actual glomerular filtration rate can only be measured directly using specialized clearance tests.
